A small company who think big.

Our journey started in April 2009 when the the small hut (formerly selling hotdog and ice cream) came up for tender and we put in a bid, no experience, just enthusiasm. We learned the hard way. Our doors opened for the first time a few weeks later and we traded all summer building up a base of loyal customers (many of whom remain loyal to this day). Many mistakes were made along the way but people seemed to like what we were doing, simple food, done well. The strong ethics with which we run the company today were part of our founding principles. Choose farmers and producers with integrity, those who treat the environment and the animals in their care with respect. After a couple of years of trading April to September we looked at how to take the business forward and approached Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) with a plan for us to build a permanent indoor home for the café in return for a long lease. We approached many angel investors and stood in front of them (much like Dragon’s Den) asking for them to take a punt on us. It worked and in May 2009 the café was re-born in its new and current home. This was a new game entirely and many mistakes were made still. Seven years on and the future looks rosy. We have built a strong team, many of whom have been with us on this journey for a few years. We believe that food can unite a community. Good food, naturally.
